UK generator, National Power has been selected to build and operate a 500 MW gas fired power station at Pelican Point in Adelaide. Construction of the $400m project is scheduled to begin in April, with the first stages to come on line in November 2000. The contract will see National Power pay the state government $30m for a development package which would include land at Pelican Point, a 20-month contract to supply ETSA Corporation with 200 MW of electricity and a five year contract to buy gas from Terra Gas Trader. Under the construction schedule National Power plans to have 163 MW on line by November 2000, 413 MW by February 2001 and 500 MW by November 2001.
