26 October 2002 – Tulsa-based PennWell Corp. and General Exhibitions Corp. of Abu Dhabi, under the patronage of the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, have entered into a joint venture agreement to expand PennWell’s Power-Gen Middle East Conference and Exhibition, and launch additional projects in power generation, water and petroleum.

Robert F. Biolchini, PennWell’s president and chief executive officer, and His Excellency Fares Al Yabhouni, director general of GEC, signed the agreement earlier this month during the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition & Conference 2002.

Biolchini also attended ADIPEC to speak at a commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Oil & Gas Journal, which PennWell publishes.

PennWell intends to hold an Oil & Gas Journal 21st century technology conference and exhibition in conjunction with GEC in 2003 in Abu Dhabi.

Under the cooperation agreement, PennWell and GEC will jointly conduct Power-Gen Middle East, part of the worldwide series of PennWell conferences and exhibitions for the power generation industry.

In addition to Power-Gen Middle East, PennWell covers the global power industry with Power-Gen conferences held annually in North America, Europe, Asia, Russia, India and Latin America.

PennWell and GEC also explored opportunities to work together on other projects in the Middle East and North Africa for industries served by PennWell publications and trade shows, including water and wastewater, oil and gas, and military and aerospace electronics.

According to Biolchini, this partnership with the GEC “provides the platform for PennWell to rapidly grow its presence in a challenging, yet strategically important, geography.”

PennWell is a diversified media company providing print and online publications, conferences and exhibitions, research, databases, Internet-based services and other information products to strategic global markets.

GEC was established in 1998 to serve as a supervisory body for all exhibitions and conferences held in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
