New JV serving rotating machinery sector for ASEAN region

Quartzelec Limited, a UK-based electrical engineering specialist, and Malaysia’s engineering group Maser Sdn Bhd have established a joint venture (JV) company to leverage the expertise of both companies within Malaysia, as well as the wider ASEAN region.

The new company, called Maser Quartzelec, will be headquartered in Kuala Lumpur and will focus on eight key service areas for rotating machinery utilized in the power generation, oil & gas and industrial sectors.

They are:

  • Design & machine engineering
  • Repair & refurbishment
  • Installation & commissioning
  • Site service
  • Major overhauls
  • Long-term service agreements
  • Diagnostics & life assessment testing
  • New equipment & spares supply

Power industry veteran Dr.-Ing. Bernhard Fruth has been appointed general manager of Maser Quartzelec.

“Bernhard is a world-respected expert on machine behaviour and high-voltage diagnostics, and will bring a wealth of experience to the joint venture,” says Steve Cooper, Quartzelec’s director of Power Generation.

The new joint venture company builds upon 12 years of Quartzelec and Maser working together, serving the ASEAN region.

In the first quarter of next year, Maser Quartzelec will open a new 2300 m2 workshop in the Shah Alam industrial area on the outskirts of Malaysia’s capital, which will focus on the repair of motors and generators.
