8 Mar 2002 – Mott MacDonald this week acquired specialist electricity information company Power Ink Limited in a move aimed at expanding and developing its power market consultancy and e-business expertise. It also announced that Indian power specialist Premier Energy Technology has joined Mott MacDonald to form Premier Mott MacDonald

Power Ink’s main business areas comprise competitive power market models, market intelligence, training and publishing which includes UK Powerfocus providing on-line news, insight and analysis of the UK electricity market.

Since its inception in 1994 Power Ink has provided support to clients seeking in-depth knowledge of developments in European power markets. This service includes a series of models covering electricity markets in 27 European countries. Power Ink maintains an on-line electricity community site for European professionals – www.ENERGY-directory.com – containing information, news and views, employment opportunities and directory details.

Commenting on this latest move Bruce Mayo, managing director of Mott MacDonald’s energy business said, “We’re delighted to welcome Power Ink into the Group. Dr Guy Doyle, Power Ink’s managing director, has worked with Mott MacDonald on a number of projects over the past five years and believes that joining Mott MacDonald will benefit both staff and clients. “Bringing together the wealth of knowledge and expertise our two companies share in the energy business will mean that clients can now obtain first class information and consultancy services under one roof.”

With the news that Indian power specialist Premier Energy Technology has joined Mott MacDonald the company is able to expands it’s business in India’s power market and complement its creation in September 2001 of Dalal Mott MacDonald, one of the country’s largest management and engineering consultancies. The formation of Premier Mott MacDonald builds on more than a decade’s work together, including projects such as the rehabilitation of India’s Hirakud hydropower development.

Premier specialises in both hydro and thermal power generation plus life extension of older facilities, reduction of transmission and distribution losses and improvement of distribution management. The company was founded in 1990 under the leadership of Mr AK Sah, former chairman of India’s National Thermal Power Corporation and Uttar Pradesh State Electricity Board, who now becomes chairman of Delhi-based Premier Mott MacDonald.
