1 August 2002 – Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) has registered a net loss of RM356.1m ($93.83m) during the quarter ended 31 March 2002 against a profit of RM333m a year ago.

The national utility posted a 32 per cent fall in net profit to RM1.21bn for the nine months ended May 31, 2002, from RM1.79bn in the same period last year.

TNB said the strengthening yen and the increase in fuel costs had adversely affected its bottom line. It said the group’s prospects for the year would largely depend on the direction of the yen, fuel cost that forms a major portion of production costs and economic growth.
