GE-Niigata sign distribution agreement
GE Power Systems (GEPS) and Japan`s Niigata Engineering have signed an agreement for the distribution of Niigata`s new line of liquid fuel engines for the power generation and industrial markets. The two companies will share the global distribution of the HLX engines, a line of medium speed reciprocating engines.
The HLX product includes the 22 HLX, 28 HLX and 34 HLX which are capable of burning heavy fuel oil as well as lighter diesel fuels. GE will be the exclusive distributor for the Americas, Europe, Africa and parts of the Middle East and Asia. Niigata will be the exclusive distributor for Japan, Korea, Iran and Iraq. China and other territories will be served by both parties.
The agreement is a key part of GE`s strategy of meeting the increasing demand for distributed generation. According to Robert Nardelli, president and CEO of GEPS, the deal adds another component to the company`s portfolio and will take advantage of GEPS`s global reach.
GEPS will have sales, application engineering, system integration, financing and long-term service responsibility in its areas. Niigata will supply engines to GEPS and will maintain its power and industrial applications in its territories.
