A sugar-producing cooperative in India is to set up a 14 MW cogeneration plant as part of a new sugarcane processing factory.  

The Lauh Purush Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel Shakkar Karkhana Maryadit cooperative plans to establish a 2500-tonne gravity flow sugar plant at Pandaria in Chhatisgarh.

An associated cogeneration plant is to run on sugarcane bagasse (pictured), and is expected to be completed within 12 months.

Chhattisgarh is among India’s leading states for implementing biomass power projects, according to the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).

The state’s biomass projects generated a total of 249 MW of power as of March, according to Ministry figures.
