The 11th annual Bangladesh, China, India and Myanmar (BCIM) forum saw calls for joint ventures in the energy sector in order to ensure energy security.

The forum also called for exploration of natural resources towards that aim.

Energy security has remained a major concern for all the countries of the BCIM region and there are significant opportunities for joint initiatives in investment, exploration and cross border trade in the energy sector within the region,” the regional group of Asian nations said in a joint statement issued Sunday.

At a two-day meeting in Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka, the participants highlighted the member countries’ energy needs and the importance of developing sustainable resources in the region.

All the member countries, except Myanmar, suffer from a shortage of energy, the participants pointed out and underlined the need for bilateral cooperation in the sector.
