Swasti Power Engineering Ltd. of India and Essex Hydro Associates of the United States have announced a joint venture to develop the hydropower potential of the Bhilanganga River in Uttar Pradesh, with permission recently granted by the government for three to five plants and a target total capacity between 9 MW and 25 MW.
Wartsila Diesel International Ltd. Oy of Finland and Cummins Engine Company Inc. of the United States have formed a joint venture to design, develop and manufacture two new families of heavy-duty, high-speed diesel and natural gas engines of up to 3,600 horsepower (hp) (2.7 MW) and 6,000 hp (4.5 MW) respectively.

EnviroTech manufactures pumps to handle abrasive and aggressive fluids, including slurries and sludges.
Mission First Financial and a group of independent investors have closed a (US)$1.27 billion sale/leaseback of a power plant with EPZ, a Dutch power generation company. The plant will be operated by EPZ during the 22-year lease.
Liberty Power Latin America LP and Cogentrix Energy Inc. have jointly purchased 14.3 percent of Bolivian Power Company Ltd., the largest privately-owned electric utility in Bolivia.
Perkins Engines Ltd., formerly Dorman Diesels Ltd., has announced a (US)$1 billion agreement to supply engines to electric-generating set manufacturer F.G. Wilson. Perkins has also announced a long-term partnership with Tianjin Engine Works in China to build Perkins engines there. Perkins has formed a strategic alliance with Iseki, a Japanese manufacturer, to develop new range of low-emission engines.
Thermax Ltd., an Indian boiler manufacturer, signed a license agreement with Combustion Power Co. allowing Thermax to manufacture and sell Combustion Power`s FI CIRC(TM) circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boilers in India and neighboring countries. Combustion signed a similar license agreement with Japan Steel Works Ltd., a Japanese manufacturer of pressure vessels, giving the firm exclusive sales and manufacturing rights for Combustion`s CFB technology in Japan and Korea.

GE Power Systems, Schenectady, N.Y., USA, has forged several partnerships recently. GE has a joint venture with Kirovsky Zavrod of St. Petersburg, Russia, for production of heavy-duty gas turbines; an agreement with Indonesia`s Agency for Strategic Industries to establish a gas turbine manufacturing base; an agreement with Tenaga Nasional Berhad to provide GE engineering services and training to the Malaysian utility; and a joint venture with Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd., New Delhi, India, to establish a service engineering and repair facility for GE-designed gas turbines in India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Mauritus.
Southern Electric International Inc. and Amoco Power Resources Corp. have joined with the Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission to form a new company, the Power Generation Company of Trinidad and Tobago Ltd., to own and operate the electric power generation facilities in Trinidad and Tobago. Southern Electric International Inc. has also acquired majority ownership of Empresa Electrica del Norte Grande S.A., an electric utility serving northern Chile.
Mannesman Demag AG of Duisburg, Germany, has acquired Imo Industries Inc. of Lawrenceville, N.J., USA, for (US)$124 million. The acquisition includes the Delaval Turbine Division in Trenton, N.J., USA; the TurboCare division in Chicopee, Mass., USA; and Imo`s 50 percent interest in the joint venture Delaval-Stork VOF in Hengelo, the Netherlands.
