Black & Veatch takes 2 in Indonesia

Black & Veatch has landed contracts from Sumitomo Corp. of Tokyo and Sumitomo Corp. of America for two turnkey projects at the Indonesian electric utility`s Tambak Lorok plant. The two projects are valued at nearly (US)$600 million. Black & Veatch will serve as subcontractor to Sumitomo on both projects, located in Semarang on the island of Java, Indonesia.

Construction and major equipment shipments have begun on the 500-MW combined-cycle Tambak Lorok Block 2 plant. Commercial operation is set for January 1997.

Phase II of the plant, converting the simple-cycle combustion-turbine plant to combined cycle by adding a 200-MW steam cycle, should be completed in August 1997.
