Bangladesh PPA signed

The Bangladesh government and US power company AES Corp. have signed a $280m power purchase agreement (PPA) for a proposed 450 MW combined cycle power plant. The natural gas fired plant will be constructed at Meghnaghat, 20 km south of Dhaka.

The plant, to be developed by AES on a build-own-operate basis, will be the single largest power project in the country. AES will sell all the power produced at the plant to the Bangladesh Power Develop-ment Board (BPDB) for a period of 22 years under the PPA which was signed in March.

Agreements still have to be reached on fuel supply, implementation and land leasing. AES will then have six months to close financing for the project and another 30 months to construct and commission the plant.
