NBC to build 6.5 MW CHP plant in Nigeria

The Nigerian Bottling Company (NBC), a subsidiary of Coca-Cola Hellenic, is to install a 6.5 MW CHP plant for its manufacturing factory in Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria.

NBC says the investment will enable the company to significantly reduce its energy consumption, and achieve a 40% reduction in carbon emissions.

The CHP plant, which is gas and diesel-fired, will be ready for commissioning by the end of May 2011.

NBC says the plant will meet 99% of its energy requirements at the plant and that the new plant guarantees a constant power supply.

The construction is being carried out by ContourGlobal Solutions, Nigeria, a subsidiary of ContourGlobal, a power and energy operating and development company headquartered in New York, US.

After the project is completed, ContourGlobal will manage it for 15 years on a Built, Operate and Transfer (BOT) basis, after which it will be transferred to NBC
