Ahlstrom contracts for Thailand cogen plant

A. Ahlstrom Corp. has signed a contract with Thai Kraft Paper Industry Company Ltd. to deliver a cogeneration power plant for the Wang Sala mill, north of Bangkok, Thailand. Commercial operation is scheduled for summer 1996.

Target: 60% thermal efficiency

A Turkish-German consortium under the leadership of the Power Generation Group of Siemens AG is to build Kazakhstan`s first combined-cycle power plant in the Aktyubinsk region in the western part of the country. The state-owned utility, Kazakhstanenergo, Almaty, will purchase the 954-MW plant.

The ZUS condition monitoring system provides diagnostics tasks. The system detects minimal changes in component behavior on the basis of temperature, structure-borne noise and vibration signals, and sounds alarms to indicate incipient damage. It features a self-learning mode which lets the system set its own monitoring limits.
