Edison Mission Energy has announced that Doga Enerji A.S. has completed financing and commenced construction of the $182.4 million Doga Enerji Cogeneration Project located in the Esenyurt suburb of Istanbul, Turkey. The 180 MW, natural gas-fueled Doga project will provide both hot water to heat 14,000 new homes and electricity urgently needed by TEAS, the Turkish national electric utility. Construction should be completed by late 1998.

Two tubular solid-oxide fuel cells (SOFC) have been shut down after nearly eight years of failure-free operation at the Westinghouse Electric Corp.`s Science & Technology Center in Pittsburgh, Pa., USA.

EME completes acquisition

Edison Mission Energy, an Edison International company, has announced financial closing on the acquisition of the remaining 49 percent interest in the Loy Yang B power station held by the State Electricity Commission of Victoria (SECV). The transaction makes Edison Mission Energy the sole owner of the 1,000 MW station near Melbourne, Australia. The company acquired 51 percent of Loy Yang B from the SECV in December 1992.
