VA TECH T&D wins contract for substation in Ravenna, Italy

26 June 2002 – VA TECH Transmission & Distribution (VA TECH T&D) has been awarded a € 4m contract by EniPower, to supply a 380 kV gas insulated substation (GIS) for the Ravenna 800 MW combined cycle power plant in Italy.

The project is to be completed within a very short timescale and involves the manufacturing, installation and commissioning of five 380 kV outdoor GIS bays. Particular attention was given to easy access, a high level of safety and low maintenance.

VA TECH T&D said it won the contract against heavy competition, by being able to satisfy one of the customer’s principle requirements, that the delivery time be less than twelve months.

EniPower is part of Eni, a group which operates in the oil and gas, power generation, petrochemicals, oil field services and engineering industries. EniPower is responsible for managing the Livorno, Taranto, Mantova, Ravenna and Brindisi power stations in Italy.

With an installed capacity, rising from 2500 MW to more than 5000 MW EniPower is destined to become one of the most important operators in the Italian electricity generation market.
