Californian technology solutions provider Silver Spring Networks has been picked by energy company CPFL Energia to deliver a Smart Grid networking project in Brazil.

The project will be rolled out across the states of Sao Paulo, Rio Grande do Sul, Paraná and Minas Gerais and will be targeted initially at the commercial and industrial customers of CPFL, Brazil’s largest privately-owned power company. It will then be used for the expansion of Smart Grid coverage for residential customers.

CPFL operations manager Mauro Carmello said “we are counting on Silver Spring to set a global benchmark in how we provide our clients with power and information”.

“We believe that the Smart Grid system will significantly improve the company’s operating efficiency, particularly in terms of energy metering, automation and network operation processes.”
