Offshore wind links

Dutch transmission system operator, TenneT, has successfully commissioned the 576MW HelWin 1 offshore link in the German North Sea.

The Siemens HelWin Alpha converter platform connects RWE’s 295MW Nordsee Ost wind farm and the 288MW Meerwind Süd/Ost owned by WindMW to the grid.

HelWin Alpha was constructed by Nordic Yards at its Wismar shipyard and installed in August 2013. Power will be delivered via HelWin 1 to an onshore substation in Büttel through an 85km subsea cable and 45km of onshore lines.

TenneT said the formal handover of HelWin Alpha from Siemens will happen within weeks.

The company also started trial operations for the 690 MW HelWin 2 link today (Tuesday). The HelWin Beta station is sited next to HelWin Alpha and the test run is scheduled to last 10 weeks, ending on 6 April.
