The deal forms part of the latest phase of KAHRAMAA’s Qatar power transmission system expansion project.
Siemens will provide gas-insulated switchgears with voltages including 220kV, 132kV and 66kV and is scheduled to complete the project in 2016.
Bernhard Fonseka, chief executive of Siemens Qatar, said: “Siemens has been a long-standing partner to KAHRAMAA and this contract strengthens our co-operation further.” He added that the project would “contribute to improving the power infrastructure in and around Doha” and help the government meet its sustainable energy requirements.
KAHRAMAA’s expansion of its power supply system is now in its 11th phase and Siemens has provided substations for five previous phases.
The expansion is intended to meet the growing demand for electricity in Qatar, as the development and urbanization of the country continues at pace.
