Guatemala and Mexico seek electricity sector cooperation

Guatemalan and Mexican authorities have signed a non-binding agreement to increase cooperation in the energy sector, Mexican news agency NOTIMEX reports.

Both parties are committed to engaging in mutual activities, mainly in the electricity sector, the report confirmed.

The common objective is to increase energy exports by 30 MW from Mexico to Guatemala, and eventually to the rest of Central America.

In order to achieve this, the Federal Commission of Electricity (CFE) and the National Institute of Electrification in Guatemala (INDE) are working together to create a plan so that the transmission line for Central American countries (SIEPAC) links Guatemala with Mexico.
