PennWell Corporation has confirmed Furnas as the Host Utility for this year’s POWER-GEN Brasil, HydroVision Brasil and DistribuTECH Brasil events, which jointly take place 24-26 September at the Transamerica Expo Centre in Sao Paulo.
Furnas, which is a major subsidiary of Eletrobras, is in charge of electricity generation and transmission in the southeast region of Brazil.
Its power assets currently comprise 15 hydropower plants, two thermal plants, 52 substations and approximately 20,000 km of high-voltage transmission lines. However, new power plants, including wind farms, and new transmission lines are expected to be integrated into the electric system within the next few years.
Currently, over 40 per cent of the electricity consumed in Brazil passes through Furnas’ electric power system.
