Siemens is to supply two Austrian utilities with a smart metering solution which will replace 95,000 analogue meters.
The company has signed a deal with utilities Kàƒ¤rnten Netz and Stadtwerke Kapfenberg, which operate in the province of Styria.
Later this year, Siemens will begin the roll-out by replacing the first 10,000 meters. Austria‘s government has set out regulations that call for at least 95 per cent of homes to be equipped with smart meters by the end of 2019.
Siemens will supply a complete system made up of smart meters, secure transmission technology and IT systems for collecting and processing the measured data.
It will implement the roll-out in partnership with Omnetric Group, a joint venture between technology service provider Accenture and Siemens.
