Merchant power plants to take center stage at upcoming event

Jan. 1, 2001à‚–Merchant power plants are the key to the unprecedented opportunity the U.S. energy market is experiencing, managers of an upcoming Houston conference are betting.

The two-day 5th Annual Merchant Power Plants opens Jan. 18 in Houston, Texas.

The conference is basing its program upon the challenging energy market at a time when developers are dealing with new regulations, price caps, spikes in power prices and other uncertainties.

It will grapple with the problem of developing the optimal generation portfolio and extracting maximum value from assets. Speakers will come from such companies as Calpine Corporation, Dynegy, Enron North America, Williams Energy Marketing and Trading Co., and Cinergy.
