The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has approved a $23m loan for the government of Honduras to finance the renovation of the Cañaveral and Río Lindo hydropower plants.

The reforms will allow the plants to increase their capacity, and both plants will be operational for at least another 30 years, according to an IDB statement.

Work will include rehabilitation of the transmission infrastructures linked to the national interconnected system. This will make possible an improvement of the plants’ operational efficiency and commercial management of their power production.
