GE aims to satisfy Russian appetite for CHP

General Electric (NYSE:à‚ GE) announced this week that it will create aà‚ joint venture with Russia’s state-funded private equity vehicle toà‚ build mini power cogeneration plants across Russia.

Theà‚ mini power plants are low-power co-generation systems producing up toà‚ 25 MW that are build independently ofà‚ the federal power grid andà‚ therefore without theà‚ need forà‚ transmission lines.

Industrial growth is driving greater demand forà‚ individual power generation systems inà‚ Russia. Theà‚ project will focus onà‚ providing electricity toà‚ manufacturing plants andà‚ infrastructure projects inà‚ the Russian regions.

GE andà‚ the Russian Direct Investment Fund said they would sign aà‚ memorandum ofà‚ understanding toà‚ create theà‚ venture onà‚ Friday atà‚ theà‚ St Petersburg International Economic Forum later this week.
