Unity College Center for the Performing Arts (pictured), located in the village of Unity in Maine, US, has been awarded a grant to upgrade its energy system and its controls.

$39,520 will come from the Grants to Green Maine fund, which will enable the college to replace outdated air conditioning units with air source heat pumps and update monitoring and control equipment, among other energy efficiency measures.

Grants to Green Maine is a partnership between the Maine Development Foundation’s Maine Downtown Center, Efficiency Maine and the Maine Community Foundation; funded by Kendeda Fund of The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta.

Unity College President Dr Stephen Mulkey said: ‘Our strategic plan calls for the college to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2019 as our part of combating climate change’.
