On-site wind to power Bahrain World Trade Centre

UK consultant and building designer Atkins is celebrating the installation of wind turbine blades onto the Bahrain World Trade Center. The three 29-metre diameter turbine blades are supported by three bridges each weighing 65 tonnes and positioned between the development’s two 50-storey, 240-metre-tall office towers. Their installation is the culmination of over three years’ intensive research and development by Atkins’ architects and engineers.

A UK hospital is to benefit from a new 1.4 MWe CHP and cooling (trigeneration) system, to be supplied to Kingston Hospital NHS Trust under a 15-year ‘private finance initiative’ (PFI) agreement backed by an energy management contract, which will avoid the emission of around 4000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions per year.
