Peru-Chile electricity system integration continues

Plans for power transmission integration between Peru and Chile are continuing, with two potential projects under consideration. One will cost $55m and be operational by 2017. The other, a more ambitious project, will cost $725 million and is set to begin in 2020.

The Committee on Economic Cooperation for the National Interconnected System (COES) said that only a political agreement between the countries is needed, according to Gestiàƒ³n.

The cheapest plan includes a 220 kV, 50 km line, able to transport about 460 MW. The other includes two 500 kV lines and one 220 kV line which would transport up to 1000 MW. à‚
