The Galvin Electricity Initiative introduced the Perfect Power Seal of Approval, a program designed to evaluate and recognize the nation’s top performing smart microgrid projects in key performance categories. The program is modeled after the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED certification for buildings.
The program will measure and benchmark performance in reliability, consumer empowerment, efficiency and environment and cost. Its goal is to help the industry identify mprovements as well as strategies for achieving more aggressive goals that meet or exceed consumer demands.
Projects that score well in one or more categories will be awarded a seal for each. Projects that excel in all four categories will be awarded a full “Perfect Power Seal of Approval.”
The rating system was developed by the initiative together with an advisory committee, including power distribution, utility benchmarking, environmental advocacy, green buildings and product safety. The Initiative is collaborating with consumer protection certification organization Underwriters Laboratories Inc. to train and certify program evaluators.
