Bermuda Electric Light Company (BELCO), Bermuda’s sole provider of electricity, has selected US-based Bridge Energy Group as a partner in implementing Smart Grid technology into the island’s power network.
As part of the agreement, Bridge will work on the first phase of the Enterprise Integration Application project, helping BELCO define its information and operations technology plan for the future, focusing on Smart Grid applications.
Bridge said that it plans to use its knowledge of standards like CIM and IEC61850 to create sustainable, scalable, and future-proof integration architecture. In the first part of the plan, Bridge will examine BELCO’s business processes to determine how best to integrate two applications: its asset management system and geographic information system.
Christian Blais, vice president of BELCO, said: “We were impressed by the breadth of Bridge’s experience in integration as it relates to transmission and distribution, as well as their deep understanding of the utility domain.”
