A shortage of hydropower capacity caused by drought and technical problems at a thermal power plant has resulted in widespread power rationing. The main cause is an outage at the 372 MW Nehuenco combined cycle power plant, according to generator Colbun. Turbine blade failure at the plant caused the outage and repairs could take up to 15 weeks.

Solar plant planned for Chile’s Atacama
