New wind farm projects in both Uruguay and Brazil are highlighting the emphasis Latin America is placing on this type of renewable energy.

State-owned UTE in Uruguay is planning to build a new wind farm, which will initially have a capacity of 100 MW, but could be expanded to 200 MW. It is expected to enter operation in 2014, local news reports said.

Meanwhile in Brazil, Enel Green Power of Italy has won three wind power projects in recent auctions, while Spanish company Elecnor was awarded one wind farm project..

Enel Green Power will operate 193 MW of wind capacity in the northwest of the country, representing an investment of $330m.

This latest award to Elecnor will mean it will add 28 MW to the 300 MW is Brazil it already has under construction..
