Mexico’s Vive Energia has been awarded the contract to build the first wind farm located on the country’s Yucatan Peninsula.

Construction is due to start in the last quarter of 2013 and expected to take between ten and 14 months.

The 70 MW project will require an investment of $191m.

Once operational the wind farm will supply sufficient energy to power 100,000 homes, or 10 per cent of the region’s demand.
