The three backers of a £230m offshore wind demonstration centre in Scotland said today they have signed deals with six turbine suppliers.
The six companies have not been named but they are believed to be Vestas, Siemens, Gamesa, Repower, Samsung and Mitsubishi.
The European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre will be off Aberdeen and is backed by Vattenfall, Technip and AREG. The companies said in a statement today that following the signing of Memoranda of Understanding with the six companies, they had applied to increase both the height and blade radius of the turbines to accommodate the latest designs from the manufacturers.
The project has attracted some notoriety because of opposition from US businessman Donald Trump, who has claimed that the turbines will spoil the view from his golf course in Aberdeen.
