US’ preferred route for link to import wind power from Mexico

The US Department of Energy (DOE) has confirmed its chosen route for a 1.7 mile (2.7 km) transmission link that would enable the US to import wind power from Mexico.

The DOE highlighted the route known as ‘alternative 4A’ as its preferred route for the Energia Sierra Juarez (ESJ) transmission line, Renewablesbiz.com said.

The line would connect San Diego Gas & Electric’s ECO substation near the town of Jacumba, in California, east of San Diego, to an ESJ substation in the first phase of an ESJ wind development near the Mexican town of La Rumorosa, Baja California.
