UK telecoms company plans to build 250 MW of on-site wind power

UK telecommunications giant BT has unveiled plans to develop on-site wind farms aimed at generating up to 25% of its existing electricity requirements by 2016. If it goes ahead, the wind farm scheme will be the UK’s largest corporate wind power project outside of the energy supply sector.

An industrial manufacturing site in South Carolina, US, is to be supplied with methane from a landfill site some 10 km away, and will use the gas on-site to raise steam for process use.
