India’s National Centre for Antarctic and Ocean Research (NCAOR), an autonomous research and development institution of the Department of Ocean Development (DOD), government of India and Ministry of Earth Sciences, have installed a Proven 6kW wind turbine at its headquarters in Goa.

The development marks a trial phase before the machine is relocated to the Maitri Station in Antarctica to become the third small scale wind turbine installed at the site.

A spokesperson from the NCAOR said: ‘The main driver was to save on fuel. With the further installation of the Proven 6kW wind turbine, the Maitri station would look to save about 60% on the total fuel costs.’
