Nexans clinches €50m North Sea cable deal

French cable company Nexans has won a deal worth more than €50m ($65.7m) to supply 57 km of high voltage subsea cables to Belgian wind power firm Northwind in the North Sea.

The contract is for 14 km of cable to connect Belwind Phase 2 wind farm to the Northwind wind farm ” formerly known as Eldepasco ” together with a further 43 km of cable that will transfer a total of 381 MW produced by both facilities to an onshore grid connection at Zeebrugge.à‚ 

In addition to the design, type-testing and supply of the XLPE subsea cables, Nexans will also supply mechanical and electrical accessories.

Northwind wind farm will comprise 72 turbines with a total installed capacity of 216 MW. The power will be delivered to the Belgian electricity network at the ELIA HV connection station in Zeebrugge. à‚ 

The tendering process for Northwind ” a joint venture between Belgian companies Colruyt and Aspivari ” was was completed at the end of last month, with €99m worth of work being allocated ” one of the biggest business investments in Belgium in recent years.
