TOKYO, Dec. 28, 2000 — Tomen Corp. (TSE:8003) said Wednesday that it will construct two medium-sized wind power plants in northern Hokkaido, aiming to begin operations in November 2001.

The trading company, which expects to spend a total of 1.4 billion yen (US$12.31 million) on the project, has leased two unused railway yards to set up 2.97mw plants using Danish technology.

It plans to sell the power to Hokkaido Electric Power Co. (TSE:9509) under a 17-year contract.
