9 July 2014 – French power equipment supplier Alstom signed a contract with Tractebel Energia Brasil, the Brazil’s biggest private power producer, to supply its ECO 122 turbines to the Trairi II wind farm.

The wind farm, located in north-eastern state of Ceara, is scheduled to enter operations in mid-2016, when it will generate 97.2 MW of power.

Alstom’s scope includes the supply of 36 units of the ECO 122 wind turbines (2.7 MW each). In addition, the French firm will be in charge of the operation and maintenance of the wind farm for a period of ten year.

For the first time, the wind turbines will feature 119-metre concrete towers specifically designed for ECO 122, delivered in consortium with Freyssinet.

This new tower will be made of precast concrete sections to be erected using a craneless installation method based on proven hydraulic lifting techniques used in civil engineering.

The turbine nacelles will be manufactured at Alstom’s plant in Bahia.
