EirGrid reports new Irish wind power output record

EirGrid, the independent operator of Ireland‘s grid, has confirmed that a new record in the power output from wind farms has been set. In early November, wind power capacity reached 1412 MW.

An EirGrid spokesman said: “We welcome this latest record. EirGrid is proactively developing the necessary infrastructure and operational capability to help meet Ireland’s renewable targets, which are among the highest in Europe.

“Key to this will be EirGrid’s Smart Grid programme, which aims to ensure the secure and efficient management of the power system with very high levels of renewables.”

In related news, EirGrid has, as part of its Smart Grid programme, has launched an updated version of its iPhone application (app), SmartGrid version 1.1.

This app enables people to monitor wind generation on the system and be more energy-aware.

EirGrid said that to-date over 2100 users had downloaded the free Smart Grid app.
