EDF (Euronext: EDF) has made its entrance into the Polish wind power market, through the acquisition of Starke Wind and a 48 MW wind project nearing completion.

Construction of two of the Starke projects – of 58MW and 28MW – could start next year. Another 150MW of developments are at “an advanced development stage” says EDF EN.

Linowo wind project
The separate purchase of the Linowo project in the Grudziadz region of northern Poland gives the French group the chance to get wind operations underway quickly, it says, according to Re-Charge.

Linowo is already being built and is due in service by the end of this year, using 24 Vestas wind turbines.

“The country also has very good wind conditions, and is working on improvements to provide investors with better long-term perspectives,” it says.

The French company has set up a Polish subsidiary called EDF EN Polska to manage its operations in the country.
