Colombia anticipates new wind capacity

Colombia is preparing for the integration of future wind plants onto its grid as of 2018 or 2019, the director of the energy ministry’s planning division, Jorge Valencia, was quoted as saying by El Espectador daily.

The preliminary version of the 2015-2029 plan proposes different options for 500-kV grid development to include possible wind plants in Colombia’s Caribbean region, the report said.

In the area of La Guajira, the country’s energy planning unit has received information about 3100à‚ MWà‚ of wind projects from Enel Green Power, Jemeiwaa Ka’I, Isagen and Empresas Publicas de Medellin.

Local authorities have been identifying photovoltaic, wind and small hydro projects.
