Chinese wind company Sinovel is to go ahead with plans for a factory and wind farm in Greece, despite the country’s turbulent economy.

The plans – which have been in the pipeline for over a year – are to build a 300 MW onshore wind farm with Greek national utility Public Power Corporation.

Little has been heard about the project since, but this week Sinovel confirmed it still intended to go ahead with the scheme – although could not give give a start date for construction. Public Power Corporation also said it remains committed to the project.

Under the agreement, Sinovel would become an equity partner while PPC could have access to project-financing from China.

In May this year, Sinovel signed a $1bn deal with Turkey’s Agaoglu Construction to develop a 600 MW wind project and has subsequently opened an office in the country.
