Wapda to add four hydro plants in NW Pakistan

20 August 2002 – Pakistan’s Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) says it plans to spend $1.45bn on the construction of four hydroelectric power plants in Northwest Frontier Province.

The four projects will in total account for capacity of 1000 MW and work is due to commence before the end of the year with completion due in 2006.

The Ministry of Water and Power has completed feasibility reports on the projects. The Ministry has also begun identifying sites for construction of small dams to meet local and national water requirements.
