A feasibility study for a $400m hydroelectric power plant on the Sekaman River, in Laos’ Sekong province is to be carried out by Vietnam’s Civil Engineering Corporation 5, or Cienco 5 reports the Vietnam News Agency today.

The Sekaman Plant 3, to be built about 20km from the Vietnam-Laos border, will have a generation capacity of between 80 and 260 MW. A 135 meter-high dam will create a reservoir covering 12 square km, with a storage capacity of 470m cubic meters.

The study for the project will take place over the next 12 months, following the signing of a memorandum of understanding with Laos’ Management Board of Domestic and Foreign Investment Co-operation, the report said.
