A system to harmonize wind farm management systems and allow operators to “talk” to their turbines has been launched by REpower Systems.
Designed to replace the various interfaces in a wind farm, the REguard Interface B IEC 61400-25 works not only with REpower turbines but also those of other manufacturers.
REpower claims the single interface cuts complexity and investment costs and increases operations management.
Wind farms are connected via the internet with REguard and monitors in each turbine relay to a data centre the operation and technical condition of the turbine. Units can also receive control signals to start, stop and reset.
Matthias Schubert, chief technology officer of REpower Systems, said: “Our customers manage major power station portfolios and have to be in a position to ‘talk’ to our turbines.”
