Biomass plant

The 18.7 MW Enna biomass CHP power plant in Sicily has been acquired by FriEl Green Power.

RWE Innogy decided to sell its 80 per cent share in the plant due to a strategic realignment and is focusing on renewables rather than small-scale biomass plants.

Phil Piddington, Head of RWE Innogy Biomass, explains: “Together with FriEl Green Power we have constructed the first biomass cogeneration plant in Sicily. I am now proud to hand over a power plant that operates well and I am happy that FriEl Green Power now becomes the 100% owner. In times of limited funds the disposal of non-core biomass activities is a required step for RWE Innogy and contributes to support future growth in core segments.”

The plant is designed for a power generation output of 126,000 megawatt-hours, enough to supply about 30,000 residential households with electricity per year.
