The government of Peru has approved an environmental impact study (EIS) conducted by Brazilian developer Odebrecht Energia for the 600 MW Chadin 2 hydropower plant.
The hydro facility will be located on the Maranon River Basin.
The EIS, which addressed legal and technical requirements, was reviewed by the Energy Environmental Affairs Department of Peru’s Ministry of Energy and Mines.
Odebrecht Energia subsidiary AC Energia submitted the report in 2011.
The Ministry of Energy and Mines also recently gave a temporary concession to local firm Auster Energia to study the feasibility of a wind power project in the northwest Piura region.
The firm will conduct the studies in La Brea and Parinas districts for an estimated capacity of 30 MW. The studies will be conducted over a 24-month period, according to Seenews.
