Wind developers to bid for 160 MW in Guatemala

Two wind power companies, Viento Blanco, SA and Eolico San Antonio El Sitio SA, have expressed interest in tendering for 160 MW of new electricity capacity in Guatemala, according to a report in Siglo Veintiuno newspaper.

The companies, along with a third party, have the combined capacity to produce 180 MW but can only bid up to 160 MW due to limitations placed on wind technology by law.

“The wind farms would be located around the Pacaya volcano,” said Carlos Rodas, manager of the Planning and Control of Electricity in Guatemala.
