Vestas to supply turbines to citizen-owned wind plant

Vestas has won an order for 72.6 MW of turbines for a wind plant in northern Germany.

The plant is operated by BWP Eider GmbH & Co and is a citizen-owned wind farm in Schleswig-Holstein.

Vestas will supply 22 of its V112-3.3 MW turbines (pictured), along with a SCADA solution and a 15-year service agreement.à‚ 

Delivery is planned for the third quarter of this year with commissioning scheduled for the fourth quarter.à‚ 

Marcus Alexander Rolfs and Gerald Grimmer, managing directors of the plant, said 700 local residents were investing in the project, which represented “a successful example for a democratic change in the energy mix”.

Hans Vestergaard, senior vice-president sales of Vestas Central Europe, said the plant was “a lighthouse project, which shows the potential and competitiveness of our wind energy solutions”.

“Citizen-owned wind power plants is a key part of the particularly strong support for wind power we see especially in northern Germany.”
